Multicultural Arts Victoria is Victoria’s (MAV) peak arts organisation promoting cultural diversity in the arts. MAV’s program offers fresh ideas about what is seen as contemporary and traditional, established and experimental, mainstream and community.
MAV has evolved over four decades into one of Australia’s most important & courageous bodies for the discovery, development and promotion of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) contemporary art, heritage and cultural expression.
MAV encourages: access and participation in the arts by all cultures; acceptance and understanding of cultural diversity by all cultures; and excellence and innovation in multicultural arts practice. It has core interests relating to Arts and Diversity: Equity, Social Justice, Inclusion, Partnership, Respect and Human Rights.
MAV recognises Australia’s multicultural composition as being at the heart of our national identity and intrinsic to our history and character and that our multicultural character gives us a competitive edge in a globalised world. The organisation has a history of being a proactive leader in the development of arts in a multicultural Australia. MAV’s Vision is to creatively disrupt Australia’s dominant cultural narratives. MAV firmly believes that there is resilience in diversity; and the Australia’s cultural diversity is its most precious asset.
