The City of Canning is located 10km from the Perth CBD and has a population of over 101,000. Set on Whadjuk Noongar land the City is lucky to have the beautiful Djarlgarro Beelier (Canning River) as the heart of the area. The river also has significance to the Sikh community with an area on its banks being a Heritage Listed cremation site.
The City is extremely diverse with 45% of the community having been born overseas and 32% of households speaking a language other than English at home. With this diversity profile, it is imperative that the City of Canning be a Welcoming City to be a leader in the area of celebrating diversity and promoting substantive equity for newly arrived community members.
